jeetbuzz bet The past few months have been a rollercoaster for Harshit Rana, who has hosted a few shows in India for the first time. Although his performance in the second Test against Australia was criticised for not living up to expectations and failing to take wickets, the young fast bowler from Delhi has made his presence felt in white-ball cricket.
Rana will make his ODI debut against England on Thursday.
He struggled to recover from an early knock after coming in to replace Arshdeep Singh, however, he kept his composure and ultimately made the difference, further justifying his place in the Champions Trophy squad.
"There are always ups and downs in cricket. I just wanted to focus on bowling, bowling the balls I was supposed to bowl and then I got rewarded," said Rana, who made it clear that he did not do anything differently in his second over.
Since donning the Indian jersey, he has been able to tune out the hustle and bustle and focus on the game. Going forward, he plans to follow this line of thought. "I'm sure people will continue to talk. I just want to play football - good or bad, I don't care. I just want to do my part for the country. So, I don't pay attention to those conversations," he said.
On a 'two-speed pitch' that provided ample space for fast and spin bowlers, Rana managed to set up Harry Brook before taking the wicket with a short delivery. "You could say it was planned. At first, I wanted to set myself up by throwing the short ball. I threw a nice short ball and it worked out," he said.
He learned of his debut as soon as he landed Thursday morning, but he didn’t get carried away. "Mentally, I am prepared every time I take the field. I know I could take the field at any time and anything can happen. So, I am always mentally prepared," he said, adding that adaptability is key in ODIs.
“This format is a little bit difficult because it’s long and there are 10 shots. You have to play different roles in different phases. But if you practice, it works well,” he said.
Meanwhile, England captain Jos Buttler defended his decision to bat first after winning the toss. "I think with the start we had, I would probably still have continued to bat. The way the ball was turning at the end, it would have certainly been a good chase if we had put more pressure on the score," said Buttler, who made it clear that Phil Salter's run broke his team's momentum and ended up being the turning point of the game.
